Railings for balconies, staircases and terraces in Anand
A railing is a safety component first and a design element second, and the two are easy to get wrong together — a beautiful railing with under-sized posts or shallow anchors is a genuine hazard. Charotar Window Gallery fabricates and installs stainless steel, glass and modular railing systems across Anand, Nadiad, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, sized for the span and fixed into the structure properly.
Railing types we fabricate
Stainless steel railings
Fabricated from grade 304 stainless steel for most interior and covered applications. Available in mirror polish, matt or satin finish, in round or square sections, with vertical baluster, horizontal wire or glass infill. Stainless steel is the practical default for staircases and balconies: it does not rust, does not need repainting, and cleans up with a cloth.
Glass railings
Toughened glass panels held by a stainless steel or aluminium base channel, or by spigots and patch fittings, usually finished with an SS top handrail. The obvious choice where a solid railing would block a view or make a balcony feel small. We use toughened glass, generally 10 mm or 12 mm, sized according to the span and the fixing method.
Modular railing systems
Pre-engineered components — posts, handrails, connectors and infill — assembled to your dimensions. Faster to install than a fully welded railing, consistent in finish, and easy to extend or repair later because every part is a standard component.
LED-lit glass railings
Glass railings with LED strips concealed in the base channel or handrail. Effective on terraces, staircases and around a party or rooftop area, and genuinely useful as low-level lighting on a staircase at night.
Where each type suits best
| Location | Usual choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Internal staircase | SS railing, or SS with glass infill | Durable, easy to clean, does not close in a narrow stair |
| Balcony with a view | Glass railing with SS handrail | Keeps the view; feels larger |
| Terrace / open roof | SS or modular railing | Stands up to sun, dust and rain year round |
| Commercial lobby | Glass railing with spigots | Clean lines, minimal visible structure |
| Duplex / mezzanine edge | Glass with a structural base channel | Continuous run without posts breaking it up |
Getting the safety details right
- Height — a balcony or terrace railing should generally stand about 1 m (roughly 3 ft) above finished floor level; staircase handrails are usually a little lower. We confirm the height against the drawing and the local requirement for your building.
- Gaps — openings between balusters should be small enough that a small child cannot pass through. We keep them tight as a matter of course.
- Fixing — base plates are anchored into structural concrete with the correct fasteners, not into tile or screed alone. This is the single most common failure we are called out to fix.
- Glass specification — only toughened (and for some applications laminated) glass should be used in a railing, sized to the span and the fixing method.
- Handrail continuity — a handrail you can run your hand along without a break is safer on a staircase than a series of separate sections.

How a railing job runs
- Site visit — we measure the run, check floor and wall conditions, and confirm the height.
- Design — we agree the type, infill, finish and post spacing.
- Written quotation — priced by running foot, itemising the glass and fittings.
- Fabrication — cut, welded, polished and assembled, with glass toughened to the final sizes.
- Installation — anchored, levelled, glass set and handrail fitted by our own team.
What affects the price
- Total running length and the number of corners, landings and returns
- Material grade — 304 or 316 stainless steel, or aluminium
- Finish — mirror, matt or PVD coating
- Infill: balusters, wire, or toughened glass and its thickness
- Post spacing, and whether the design is post-supported or a continuous base channel
- LED lighting, if included
- Site access — upper-floor terraces and balconies take longer to install
Railings are quoted per running foot. Send a photo of the balcony or staircase with an approximate length on WhatsApp, or call +91 96647 73543 for a site visit.
Maintenance
Wipe stainless steel with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry it. Do not use steel wool or chlorine-based cleaners — they leave iron particles or chloride behind, which is what causes the brown speckling people mistake for “rusting steel”. On an outdoor terrace, rinse the railing occasionally to remove dust and salts. Glass panels clean like any other glass. Once a year, check that base plate bolts are still tight, particularly on a terrace railing that takes strong wind.

Frequently asked questions
What is the standard height for a balcony railing?
A balcony or terrace railing generally stands about 1 metre (roughly 3 feet) above the finished floor level, and staircase handrails are usually a little lower. We confirm the exact height against your drawing and the requirement for your building at the site visit.
Is grade 304 or grade 316 stainless steel better for railings?
Grade 304 is right for the great majority of interior and covered outdoor railings in Anand and works well for years. Grade 316 has better corrosion resistance and is worth the extra cost in genuinely aggressive conditions, such as a coastal location or near a swimming pool.
Is a glass railing safe for a home with children?
Yes, when it is built properly. It must use toughened glass of the right thickness for the span, held by a base channel or spigots designed for the load, and anchored into structural concrete. A glass railing built to those requirements is at least as safe as a baluster railing, and there are no gaps for a child to slip through.
How is a railing priced?
By running foot, with the glass and fittings itemised separately. The main variables are the material and finish, the infill you choose, and the number of corners and landings in the run.
Why has my stainless steel railing developed brown spots?
That is almost always surface contamination rather than the steel itself rusting — usually iron particles from a nearby grinding operation, or damage from a chlorine-based cleaner or steel wool. It can normally be polished out. Cleaning with a soft cloth and mild soap prevents it.
How long does railing installation take?
Fabrication typically takes about one to two weeks depending on length and finish, and most residential railings are installed within a day or two once they reach site.
